Woven Threads
I have been weaving tapestries since 2010. These began as small scale weavings of mostly linen and wool on fine cotton warps and mostly to private commission. More recent work is concerned with proximity, boundaries and softness and expansion. A circularity has started to appear in this work, where writing - which I do alongside making - has become more present and has taken me on previously unimagined journeys. Cloth Body is a direct result of this emerging practice, a softly scented cloth wall; made for wrapping, for cosseting, for toppling and slumping. Shreds knotted to warp as if yellow ribbons tied to tree branches, locks fastened to bridges, knots in handkerchiefs. Cloth Body is slow process, and in the passing of weft and tying of knots, time to reflect on how we hold each other in place.
